With a new administration preparing to take office and a clear mandate for a more just, affordable, and democratic New York City, our movement has an opportunity to shape what comes next. The recent mayoral election showed that New Yorkers are hungry for bold solutions and a break from the failed politics of austerity. Now we must organize to turn that momentum into real material gains for working families.
On Monday, December 8, Staten Island DSA will gather for our next chapter meeting as we take on one of the most transformative demands in our statewide agenda: universal childcare.
We’ll be doing a deep dive into:
What universal childcare would mean for New York State for working-class parents, caregivers, educators, and our broader economy
Different ways it could be funded, including models used in other states and countries
The political organizing required to win such a program, from building coalitions to pressuring legislators to mobilizing our base
This is the kind of ambitious, structural change that becomes possible only when movements like ours stay organized, informed, and ready to fight. Let’s come together to build toward a New York where every child and every parent has what they need to thrive.
When: Monday, December 8 (arrive by 6:45pm, we’ll begin promptly at 7:00pm)
Where: Unitarian Church of Staten Island
312 Fillmore St (please use the side door)
Our movement is growing, our vision is resonating, and our time is now.
See you Monday night!
