Astraea is pleased to invite you to an intimate fireside chat on the ethics of philanthropy with trans rights activist Justus Eisfeld, philanthropist Naomi Sobel, and "Decolonizing Wealth" author Edgar Villanueva on November 1, 2018 at 6pm at our offices in NYC:
Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice
116 East 16th Street, 7th Floor
New York, NY 10003
We are at a crossroads. Major philanthropic organizations are assuming the power of imperialistic entities, and grassroots LGBTQI activism remains drastically under-resourced despite facing increasing global backlash and harm. What does giving responsibly look like in this new era of philanthropy? What are the ethical concerns of giving? Want to start giving but don’t know how? Eisfeld, Sobel, and Villanueva will be discussing the recently published book “Giving with Trust” by renowned philanthropist Ise Bosch and Justus Eisfeld, and imagining what a transformative grassroots model of philanthropy looks like. The conversation will be moderated by Astraea's Regional Development and Engagement Officer, Zakiya Lord.
Light refreshments will be served. To RSVP, please email Kristin Gardner, Associate Director of Major Gifts, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
