Julia Salazar at NYU!

Date: Dec 07th

In September, DSA member Julia Salazar won a seat in the New York State Senate’s 18th district (North Brooklyn) on a platform of Medicare for all, abolishing ICE, sex workers’ rights, and taxing the rich to pay for the subway. Housing justice was a key issue: Salazar stood for Universal Rent Control and ending evictions and gentrification, and drew attention to her opponent’s ties to real estate interests. 2,000+ volunteers--unheard of for a State Senate race-- came out and knocked on doors across the district, nearly tripling voter turnout. On December 7, Salazar will be visiting NYU to talk about her unprecedented grassroots campaign and what it means for North Brooklyn to have elected a socialist state senator.
