CABARET SHOW PRODUCER STEPHEN HANKS TO CELEBRATE DEMOCRATIC PARTY’S MIDTERM ELECTION SUCCESS WITH BLUE WAVE ELECTION VICTORY CELEBRATION SHOWS FEATURING 26 ALL-STAR PERFORMERS FROM 2018 “RIDE THE BLUE WAVE” SERIES
SUNDAY, JANUARY 13 at 5 PM & MONDAY, JANUARY 14 at 7 PM at DON’T TELL MAMA
All Proceeds Will Be Donated to National Democratic Redistricting Committee
At the end of 2017, Cabaret Show Producer, Publicist, Performer Stephen Hanks felt compelled to combine his passion for the art form of cabaret and its performers and his disgust with the rise of voter suppression and white supremacy during the Trump Presidency into raising money for Democratic candidates running in the 2018 Midterm Elections. So between last April and October, Hanks Produced and Hosted a series of five variety fundraising shows at the iconic club Don’t Tell Mama titled CABARET CAMPAIGNS: RIDE THE BLUE WAVE 2018!, during which 28 performers represented Democratic Senate, Congressional, Governor, and State Legislative candidates, with all the proceeds from the shows going to the various campaigns.
Not only were the critically acclaimed shows a success--raising about $6,000 between the show proceeds and an online fundraising campaign—so was the Democratic Party “Blue Wave.” Sixteen of the 30 supported candidates won their elections, helping the Democrats flip 40 seats in Congress. In addition, Democrats won the national popular vote by almost 9 million, the largest margin of victory for a party since 1974. What was really a “Blue Tsunami” also helped Democrats flip seven Governorships, six State Legislative Chambers, and more than 300 State Legislature Seats.
To celebrate this political history and the 2018 “Blue Wave” Series, Hanks will Produce and Host BLUE WAVE ELECTION VICTORY CELEBRATION SHOWS at Don’t Tell Mama (343 West 46th Street, between 8th & 9th Ave.) on Sunday, January 13 at 5 pm, and Monday, January 14 at 7 pm. Each show will feature 13 different performers from the Series, and the Music Director for both events will be MAC Award winner Tracy Stark, who was MD for the first two shows of the Series. Proceeds will be donated to the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, a voting rights group founded by Attorney General Eric Holder and supported by President Barack Obama.
