Yiddish Schmooze with Zalmen Mlotek

The Workers Circle

Date: Jan 31st

This VIRTUAL event at 2:00 PM EST on Sunday, January 31, 2021 will feature Zalmen Mlotek, an internationally recognized authority on Yiddish folk and theater music as well as a leading figure in the Jewish theatre and concert worlds. For the past 20 years, he has been the Artistic Director and conductor at Folksbiene. He brought Yiddish-Klezmer music to Broadway and Off-Broadway stages. His vision brought the critically acclaimed award-winning Fidler Afn Dakh, directed by Joel Grey, for which he served as music director, to New York City. Zalmen’s parents, Yosl and Chana Mlotek were leading and highly respected figures in the world of Yiddish culture, closely connected with the Workers Circle.

Director of Yiddish Programming Nikolai (Kolya) Borodulin will talk with Mr. Mlotek not only about Yiddish theatre but his parents’ work and legacy. Don’t miss this opportunity to listen to Yiddish songs cherished by Mlotek’s mishpokhe and learn from Zalmen about his legendary parents, the vibrancy of Yiddish summer camps, Summerstage Yiddish concerts in Central Park, historic Third Seyders, and Folksbiene’s upcoming performances and programs.

This event will be held entirely in Yiddish.

Free, but we welcome an $18 suggested donation that will go to strengthening our world-renown Yiddish program. Email info@circle.org or call 212-889-6800 for more details or with any questions.
