PANEL: The Environmental Rights Amendment: By and For New Yorkers

New York Lawyers for the Public Interest

Date: Oct 12th

In November 2021, New Yorkers passed the Environmental Rights Amendment (New York’s “Green Amendment”) with over 70% of the vote: as a result, the state’s Bill of Rights now recognizes that “each person shall have a right to clean air and water, and a healthful environment.” This is great news for all New Yorkers, especially environmental justice communities and the wider climate justice movement.

We’re excited to invite you to our discussion “The Environmental Rights Amendment: By and For New Yorkers” on October 12th from 7-8:30pm. Together, we will discuss the Environmental Rights Amendment: What exactly is it? What could it do for your community? How might it advance environmental justice? In a discussion moderated by Kate Kurera (Environmental Advocates NY), speakers Professor Rebecca Bratspies (CUNY School of Law), Anthony Rogers-Wright (New York Lawyers for the Public Interest), Maya van Rossum (Green Amendment for the Generations & Delaware Riverkeeper Network), and Michael Youhana (Earthjustice) will help answer these questions and suggest ways we can use the Environmental Rights Amendment to strengthen environmental protection moving forward.

We hope that you’ll join us!
