Panelist Bios:
Christina Greer is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Fordham University, Lincoln Center (Manhattan) campus. Her research and teaching focus on American politics, Black ethnic politics, campaigns and elections, and public opinion. She is the author of “Black Ethnics: Race, Immigration, and the Pursuit of the American Dream”, “How to Build a Democracy from Fannie Lou Hamer and Barbara Jordan to Stacey Abrams”, and co-editor of “Black Politics in Transition: Immigration, Suburbanization, and Gentrification”. Greer writes a weekly column for The Amsterdam News, is a frequent political commentator on several media outlets, and is the co-host of FAQ-NYC.
Kate Doran is an emeritus board director of the League of Women Voters of New York State. The League is a Non-Partisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government. Kate has been a member of the LWV of the City of New York since 1977. Currently she is the Elections Specialist. In this role, she monitors the NYC BOE, and represents the LWVNYC on City and State voter coalitions. Kate has been a poll worker since 2004, and served as Election Day Poll site Coordinator from 2006 – 2016.
Teresa Gonzalez has an extensive background in government and public relations in New York City, including serving as Communications Director and Chief of Staff at the Mayor’s Community Affairs Unit (CAU), and as Deputy Press Secretary at the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs during the Bloomberg administration. She has held several leadership positions at cultural institutions throughout her career including at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, the Brooklyn Arts Council and Brooklyn Bridge Park in New York, and at the Museum for Contemporary Crafts in Portland, Oregon. Teresa has been recognized for her work by the New York City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce as a “Women in Business” award winner, as an influencer on Schneps Media’s Latin Impact and Power Women of Brooklyn Awards and as part of City and State Magazine’s Above & Beyond, Real Estate Power 100, Brooklyn Power 100, Who’s Who in Government Relations and Latino Power 100 list of accomplished leaders. She received her bachelor’s degree in English/Professional Writing from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania and received a master’s degree in Nonprofit Management from Milano – The New School. Teresa sits on the boards of the New York Immigration Coalition, NYIC Action, The New Majority NYC, the New York Women’s Foundation, ABNY Foundation, Brooklyn Academy of Music and is a member of the Fund for Public Housing’s Advisory Council. She resides in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where she was born and raised.
Ben Max has over a dozen years of journalism experience covering New York politics and government, including more than nine years as Executive Editor of Gotham Gazette. At Gotham Gazette, Ben led a team known for comprehensive coverage of New York City and State policy and politics, including policy explainers, election guides, and reporting on many topics often not covered by other publications. In that work, Ben also formed partnerships with other news outlets and civic organizations; is a leading analyst of New York politics and expert on city and state government, and a frequent guest on television, radio, and podcast programs. He also regularly moderates candidate debates, policy panels, newsmaker conversations, and other events for various organizations and venues. A Queens native, Ben currently lives in Brooklyn with his son, Elijah. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Trinity College in Connecticut and a master’s in teaching from Tufts University.
