On Dec. 8, 2025, the New York City Council will hold a hearing on the New York City Trust Act (Intro. 214-2024). The bill would create a private right of action to allow people harmed by violations of our city's sanctuary laws to sue in court. The hearing will also focus on a bill to make it abundantly clear that ICE cannot operate on Rikers Island. Join NYCLU at 10 AM for a rally the morning of the hearing outside of City Hall (exact location TBD) featuring the voices of community members, elected officials, and advocates to demand that the City Council act on these bills before the end of the year. Show up with signs and advocate alongside us in protecting our cities' sanctuary laws!
