The Battle of Algiers (1966) is a foundational text of revolutionary cinema that vividly recreates a key year in the tumultuous Algerian struggle for independence from the occupying French in the 1950s. Shot on the streets of Algiers in the Italian neorealist tradition, the film is a case study of revolutionary minded filmmaking centering the movement toward decolonization.
