Zohran Mamdani’s election as mayor proved that New Yorkers can work together and win against impossible odds. He successfully campaigned on a message of an affordable city that people in New York deserve.
To realize that vision, we’ve got to keep organizing. We do that in our communities: in our buildings, our neighborhoods and our workplaces. We need to organize our families, friends, neighbors and coworkers into action with us, because there is power in numbers. And when we win improvements at work, or stop the landlord from raising the rent – we raise living standards and expectations for all New Yorkers.
We are excited to partner with the Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee (EWOC), and offer our members introductory organizing workshops, so that you can learn the skills you need to build your campaign and win.
EWOC is a grassroots distributed project that DSA and the United Electrical and Radio Machine Workers of America co-founded in 2020 to support any non-unionized worker, in any industry, anywhere in the country to organize their workplace. Over the years, workers they’ve trained organized nearly 700 actions and won over 250 demands on pay, safety, scheduling, and more. They’ve helped workers organize unions in NYC at places like the non-profit behind Sesame Street, Sesame Workshop, the popular boardgame cafes of Hex & Co, the New York Live Arts theater, Nitehawk Cinema, and the rock climbing VITAL Gyms.
EWOC’s trainings are led by experienced organizers that will coach you and give you the resources you need to demand what you deserve. NYC tenants are welcome. Food service, retail, warehouse, office workers and anyone else with a job is welcome.
