NYC-DSA's Citywide Political Education Committee is proud to present another round of Socialism 201.

Please join the Citywide Political Education Committee for the first session of Socialism 201 on Thursday May 7, 7:00 – 9:00 pm, at the Brandworkers Office in LIC!

This course is designed to be the successor to Socialism 101. There is no need to have taken Socialism 101 previously, and there are no prerequisites other than a desire to learn about socialism. You do not have to attend all sessions of Socialism 201 in order.

This is session one, covering historical materialism, and the reading packet can be found here. While participants are encouraged to do the readings beforehand, there is no requirement to do so. Classes will be structured to be accessible to anyone who shows up. Socialism 201 will be accessible to those new to DSA and to socialism, and will cover material that will be stimulating to those well versed in socialist traditions. Everyone is welcome!

Objectives:

– Build a shared understanding about how capitalism works and what it means to replace capitalism with socialism
– Develop insight into the possibilities and limits of reformist politics
– Understand the interconnected nature of the multiple crises facing humanity
– Develop a common language within DSA to achieve internal strength and unity
