Hey comrades,

We just got word from our partners at DRUM regarding the case of Jabez Chakraborty.

As a reminder: On January 26, Jabez was shot by the NYPD while experiencing a mental health crisis. He was later arraigned on February 13 on a felony charge of attempted assault, despite calls from his family, his community, and Mayor Mamdani for Queens DA Katz to drop all charges.

We reject the state's attempt to criminalize Jabez for surviving a mental health crisis. He needed unarmed crisis responders—not a cop with a gun. The only ones who should be on trial are the NYPD who shot him and the system that sent them instead of care.

This is why we need a Department of Community Safety: trained responders for mental health crises. We're fighting for a world where distress receives care, not bullets.

We need to pack the courtroom.

This is a procedural hearing, but our presence is critical. We need to show the court, the District Attorney, and Judge Cimino that the community is watching. We are standing with DRUM to demand justice for Jabez and to fight against the criminalization of mental health crises.

Let’s show up and show out for Jabez and his family. Justice for Jabez!
