NYC-DSA's Citywide Political Education Committee is proud to present another round of Socialism 201.

Please join the Citywide Political Education Committee for the third session of Socialism 201 on Thursday, May 21, 7:00 – 9:00 pm, at the Brandworkers Office in LIC!

This class meeting is open to everyone. There is no need to have attended the prior sessions. There is no “required” reading. We will examine ideas set out in the recommended readings, and if you have time we encourage you to read them and get more out of the class discussion. However, everyone is welcome, and regardless of your familiarity with the readings you will find the discussion useful and illuminating.

This is session three, focusing on examining different theories of change and how to change the world, and the reading packet can be found here. While participants are encouraged to do the readings beforehand, there is no requirement to do so. Classes will be structured to be accessible to anyone who shows up. Socialism 201 will be accessible to those new to DSA and to socialism, and will cover material that will be stimulating to those well versed in socialist traditions. Everyone is welcome!

Objectives:

  • Cover different strategies of transformation like ruptural transformations, interstatial transformations, and symbiotic transformations.

  • Develop a shared language around the three most common orientations to change: liberalism, ultraleftism, and mass action.

  • Learn how Marxists think about applying the theories we covered in the first two sessions in order to make changes to the world we live in.
