A key task of the American left has always been to fight against our country's imperialist aggression. In our current period of imperialist expansion, this is important now more than ever. The war with Iran is one of the least popular in history, and yet no mass anti-war movement on the scale of the anti-Vietnam War movement has materialized. As socialist organizers, our task is to build this movement and this discussion will attempt to look at how we can.
We will be joined by editor and organizer Ben Mabie. His recent Guardian article and podcast appearance on the Dig (both linked below) discuss the history of the American anti-war movement from Vietnam to now. Mabie and co-author Salar Mohandesi cover various tactics that have been used, including pressure on politicians, boycotts, protests, and strikes. They also explain why anti-war organizing is harder now than in the 60s and 70s and how our strategies can be updated.
We will also discuss DSA's role in the anti-war coalition, so a link to Break the Chain, NYC-DSA's campaign for an arms embargo, is included.
