This session’s book is Fire on the Mountain by Terry Bisson. Since it is a short read, we will be discussing the book in its entirety. Fire on the Mountain is an alternate history novel exploring what the world would have looked like if John Brown’s raid on Harper’s Ferry was successful. In the novel, Brown joins forces with Harriet Tubman and their raid sparks a slave revolt across the South that eventually results in the creation of a socialist state. The novel then explores how Europe and the rest of America react to this development.
As always, all are welcome to join regardless of whether you have done all, some, or none of the reading. The pool will be available starting at 7 and the discussion will start at 7:30, so feel free to show up early if you’d like to swim.
